Mussoorie Hotel Association deliberates on ways to boost tourism during the annual general meeting

Members of the Mussoorie Hotels’ Association deliberated upon ways to boost in the town during the annual general meeting held at a hotel in Mussoorie, yesterday.

The chief guest on the occasion MLA Mussoorie, Mussoorie Municipal body president Anuj Gupta inaugurated the event along with the office bearers from the association.

The president of the association RN Mathur welcomed the new members inducted in the association. The secretary of the association Sanjay Aggarwal read out the minutes of the meeting. Shailendra Karnawal kept the audited report of the association in front of the members.

Sandeep Sahni, the senior member of the association and the president of the thanked the MLA Mussoorie Ganesh Joshi for initiating the drinking water supply from Yamuna river project. He also thanked Ganesh Joshi for providing relief to the people by initiating new parking projects at Kingcraig and Picture Palace. However, he demanded the redesigning of the parking being constructed at Kingcraig as the pillars of the Parking facility were encroaching upon the road which would result in traffic congestion causing inconvenience to the tourists once the facility is completed. He demanded another limited drinking water scheme till the time the Yamuna project is not completed in the town. He also demanded a reservoir at the site where the new townhall is being constructed presently to cater to water needs of the Picture palace and Landour Bazaar area. He urged MLA Ganesh Joshi. Sahni said that the Hotel association was not against the street vendors but wanted a separate street vendor zone for them so that the beauty of the town is maintained. He registered his opposition to the arbitrary increase in the power and water tariff and urged the members of the association to study the matter and prepare to oppose it in coming days.

Thw members of KEEN and Hildari non-profit organisation through a slide show presentation highlighted the need to collect garbage door to door. Sunita member KEEN said that the garbage generated by the hoteliers was the highest among the various groups in town but their contribution towards its disposal was less which needs to be increased. She urged all the hoteliers to join in the movement to keep the town clean otherwise the day was not far when the hill station here could face similar crisis as faced by Shimla in previous years.

Arvind Kumar Shukla from Hildari organisation said that around 3,5 crores of funds have been sanctioned by the central government under Swach Bharat scheme and these funds will be used to manage solid waste in the town.

The Chief Guest MLA Ganesh Joshi and Municipal council president Anuj Gupta said that they were working to make Mussoorie clean and green. Gupta said that the town has taken several steps such as banning plastic bags etc. The Municipal council has also planned to remove the community dustbins from the various parts of the town. Gupta said that the Municipal Board was constructing several parking facilities etc.

The president of the association RN Mathur thanked everyone for the support and urged its members to register their entity with the tourism department as soon as possible. The AGM ended with the vote of thanks by Ajay Bhargav the official form the association.
