The family members of Vriksh Maanav Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani demand a memorial in his memory: Meet CM

The family members of the legendary freedom fighter and conservationist Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani, who single handedly planted thousands broad leaved fruit bearing trees in barren land near Pujar Gaon in Saklana Patti of district Tehri Garhwal met the Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat and demanded a memorial and eco park in his name at the site known as Smriti Van during their visit to his office at Dehradun on Friday.
The family members led by the chairman Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Mahavir Rangad presented a memorandum and kept a set of demands.
Mahavir Rangad said that the family members have demanded a memorial amd a grand monument in honour of the legendary conservationist at Amar Shaheed Nagendra Saklani government Inter college in Pujar Gaon. Nagendra Saklani and Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani were freedom fighters and acclaimed social activists.
Mahavir Rangad along with the family members of conservationist Visheshwar Dutt Saklani demanded a safety wall around the smriti van premises along with barbed wire fence where Saklani had planted several thousand trees.
They also demanded an Eco-Park similar on lines of Dhanaulti eco park at Pujar Gaon forest area to promote eco-tourism so that the nature lover tourists are able to see the work done by the legendary conservationist in greening the area single handedly. They also demanded a construction of Guest house for the visitors, a herbal research centre and changing the name of Kaddukhal-Kumalda road in his name.
The GMVN chairman Mahavir Rangad said that the chief minister has assured to do the needful and some announcement in this regard will be made on 17th July on the auspicious occasion of Harela Divas that will be observed in the state to conserve environment.
Santosh Swaroop Saklani the son of the legendary conservationist said that his father spent his whole life planting trees and converting the barren area into a forest and he deserves a research centre, Tree university and a memorial at the place where he breathed his last in January 2018. A corpus fund should be created in the name of the conservationist for all environment conservation activities in the area in his memory.Vishweshwar Dutt Saklani was honoured with the Indira Priyadarshini Award in 1986 by then prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, he added.
Rakesh Semwal from UKD tehri, Nitin Vyas, senior BJP leader Meera Saklani and others were present on the occasion.
