Domestic flights routes in India will once again return to life as per reports. According to the latest news, domestic flights in India will begin operations from May 25, 2020. This means that even before the current lockdown end-date, Indians will be able to fly to domestic destinations.
According to a tweet by Civil Aviation Minister of India, Hardip Singh Puri, the recommencement of domestic flights will happen in a calibrated manner, and airports and air carriers are being informed to get ready. Passenger movement will go through a Standard Operating Procedure, which will be issued separately by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India. As of now, domestic flights are not in operations in the country, while international flights to select destinations are ongoing. Last week, Air India had tweeted regarding the commencement of domestic operations, saying they will begin operations only after the ministry/government directs them to do so.
Supposedly, rumours were making rounds of social media, that Air India is starting to open up for domestic flight bookings. But now, with the latest tweet, it is quite clear that Indian air carriers will once again begin operations, and bookings will begin sooner than expected. Needless to say that airports will be on full alert, and new rules will apply for checking in, reported by Times Travel previously. It is now only a matter of time before the government releases air routes, and issues guidelines for airports, and passengers.
