When we consume food it is broken down by the digestive system into various nutrients, the carbohydrate present in food is broken down into glucose but it requires assistance to reach its destination and a hormone called insulin helps in glucose absorption into the cells. In diabetes the pancreas either don’t produce insulin at all (Type 1 diabetes) or the pancreas don’t produce enough insulin or the cells do not respond to the presence of insulin and cannot utilize it (Type 2 diabetes). This complex disease can be kept in control through home remedies.

Stress management is important as it may lead to rise in blood sugar levels, managing stress helps in such conditions. Meditation, deep breathing, walking, pursuing a hobby, working out etc. can help in distressing and one can consult a doctor as well to learn more methods and ways of stress management.

Eating right is very important for a diabetic patient and one should consult a nutritionist or a doctor for a good diet plan. They might recommend you to consume food rich in fiber like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables and drink water instead of juices and soda.

Onion is a good remedy for diabetes, an animal study on rabbits showed that dried onion powder might have a potential blood sugar-lowering activity (anti-hyperglycaemic). Another study on rats showed that onion has a bioactive-compound that might help in lowering of blood-sugar. It has been found helpful on diabetic patients as well when research was done.

Bel or Bengal quince or Bilva has been found to be a good natural remedy for diabetes as studies have shown that the leaves of the Bel tree can help in lowering the sugar, urea and cholesterol levels in the blood and it is also helpful in stopping the sudden rise of blood sugar that happens after consuming food but more research is required to prove its effects.

Neem is also an effective remedy, studies have shown that neem has the potential to lower blood sugar and helps in increasing glucose uptake by cells and deposition of glycogen in rats but more human studies needs to be done on the effects of neem on diabetic patients.
