A free Pet care camp was oraganised by Animal Welfare Association for Strays (AWAS) - a non profit organisation based in Mussoorie at Sisters Bazaar, Kellogg's Church, Char Dukaan and other areas under Landour Cantonment Board on Friday. More than 15 strays dogs and 5 pets in the area were treated for mangy skin and vaccinated against Rabies.
The volunteers Gayatri Saili, Vivek Binepal and Dr. Sam provided food and medicines to the stray population of the area.
Vivek Binepal, an animal lover and one of the memeber of AWAS said that recently my pet called Nimbu went missing and later on he learnt that she was devoured by a leopard on prowl in the area. He body was found lying near Jabarkhet area.
Vivek said "Nimbu was a family memeber and my first baaby girl who has inspired me to do something more for other dogs than my own". She will be dearly rememembered added Vivek.
Currently, AWAS is looking for support in building a shelter for strays in areas near by where such animals can be treated efficiently and promptly.
