Akshay Kumar, the renowned Bollywood actor, has officially become an Indian citizen. He recently shared proof of this transition on Twitter, presenting a picture of his official government documents. Previously holding Canadian citizenship, Akshay's change in nationality has been a subject of discussion, with some sections criticizing his dual citizenship. Back in 2019, during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Akshay had announced his intention to apply for an Indian passport. He offered an update on this decision during another Leadership Summit session, explaining the delay due to the pandemic.
Commitment to Indian Identity Amidst Dual Citizenship
Addressing the topic of his citizenship, Akshay Kumar emphasized that possessing a Canadian passport didn't diminish his Indian identity. He stated that despite holding a Canadian passport for the past nine years, he still considers himself very much Indian. In light of his decision, he acknowledged that he had applied for the Indian passport in 2019 and encountered delays due to the subsequent pandemic. Akshay shared his recent documentation on Twitter, revealing his new name as Akshay Hariom Bhatia and expressing his patriotism on Independence Day. His fans celebrated the news and wished him a Happy Independence Day in response.
