How covid-19 has changed the Mental Health of Teenager and the Lifestyle among people

The most important way in which the covid-19 pandemic has changed the world is, by affecting every aspect of individual’s life including the impact on teenager health to working and learning behavior of individual.

Massive disruption, painful atmosphere and immense crises during Covid-19, alters individual life in many aspects. It can affect social or personal life or it shows effect on health like Covid-19 has shown increased negative effects on mental health of teenagers but it has also bring significant changes in the lifestyle like the working atmosphere, learning, healthcare, hygiene and many more. People are more concerned towards their health. 

How the Mental Health of Teenagers has affected during Covid-19

Research shows the worsening effect on mental health reached to 46% in 977 parents of teenagers, as the pandemic start. It has also been found that parents of teenager’s girls show high percentage of anxiety (36%) and depression (31%) than in parents of boy’s teenagers having anxiety (19%) and depression (18%) whereas they have shown almost similar negative effect in their sleep (24% for girls vs. 21% for boys) and aggressive behavior (8% vs. 9%), according to the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health at Michigan Medicine. Research show the main cause of depression is associated with their own fear and parental stress.


Majority of the parents said, that the reason for such affect is due to the lifestyle change which is associated with social networking, online gaming, talking on phone or texting every day. They also said that school routines are important which help them to manage their behavior in a proper way and thus help them for engaging with extracurricular activities, different ideas and creativity, which in turn help to keep their overall health unaffected.  

On one side, Covid-19 has affected millions of lives but on other side, during Covid-19, lets see how people have changed their lifestyle to make themselves more protective and healthier. 

How people have changed their lifestyle to cope with this crises.

Several initiatives have been taken by the people to enhance their lifestyle, which help to maintain their health. Some of them are as follows:

Online Learning System

This pandemic has given a huge lift to online learning system across country as the school and colleges closed. Educational institutions, schools and coaching classes have been moved to online classes reaching to a new level without losing any interest among students. Many online classes are being held on apps like Team viewer, Zoom, which ensured that physical classroom if not taken, does not stop the learning of students. Different online courses have been offered to keep the people attracted towards them. According to reports, many online courses have also increase their demands to high percentage. Use of internet on the other hand, by the teachers and students also increased. 

Hygiene- Frequent washing of hands

This pandemic has made compulsion of following hygiene habits like regular hand washing, sanitization of things before use etc. as many of us took these things casually. People have started to maintain personal hygiene more seriously. According to IANS C-VOTER Gallup International Association Corona Tracker survey conducted, 87.2 per cent of Indians have become more alert towards their personal hygiene during lockdown. Many campaign have started during the covid-19 time to spread awareness to Health and hygiene by advertising their products of sanitizer and hand wash, which has jump to many times higher, as these advertisements also make people understand how they can save themselves from the disease just by maintain these simple tips of hygiene. 

Work from Home (WFH)

It is another major change that has become a part of our lives. Number of companies are switching towards work from home, which was never thought earlier, though it is not a new concept, as many IT companies in India has been practicing this. Now during Covid 19, almost all companies asking its employees to work from home. This is the major change seen in the lifestyle of people, where they have adjusted in this new lifestyle. 

More Focused on Immunity

During Covid times, people have become more alert and focused towards their Immunity and tried to make themselves more strong, by maintaining balanced lifestyle including balanced meal, proper and adequate sleep, exercises, stress management etc. Immunity is the capability of body to fight against infection that causes from bacteria or virus. How people have tried to boost their immunity?

  • Balanced Meals: People have started taking a healthy diet including food contain mix of vitamins, proteins, and minerals, which is helpful to strengthen the immunity.
  • Sufficient Sleep: Timely and adequate sleep also help to keep the body relaxed and stay away from stress. 
  • Stress management: Stress is another cause which reduces the immunity levels. Work from home lowers the stress level of many people as, sometimes office environment causes lots of stress.  By doing many exercises, people managed their stress level. 
  • Meditation and Exercise: Making exercise, meditation and yoga as a routine really helped people, as it ease stress management and give strength and make body fit to fight against infection. 
  • Hand washing: It has been reported that during covid-19, high percentage of people are maintain hygiene either by using hand wash or using hand sanitizer. 

Conclusion

As we know, life is changing because of the coronavirus pandemic, but whether it will be changed forever depends on how we handle this crisis. The coronavirus is not the end of globalism but dealing with it, is the thing, which needs to be focused, in order to cope with this pandemic.
