Some useful tips which needs to be followed:
1. Immediate ban of tobacco
Smoking is another a major cause of developing cancers like mouth cancer, larynx (voice box), esophagus (food pipe), lung, liver, pancreas, stomach, kidney and colon. Among them, lung cancer shows the maximum death rate.
2. Limiting alcohol use
Large number of study gives strong evidence that excess intake of alcohol increases the risk of liver cancer along with mouth and throat cancer, so it’s better to quit early than to be late.
3. Dietary modification and physical activity
Eating healthy diet like more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and cutting excess sugar, salt, red and processed meat consumption , are the important factor in preventing cancer while as doing regular exercise to control weight and to stay physically active in today’s life is becoming mandatory due to the present lifestyles and environmental factors. Physical activity has been associated to the reduced risk of colon cancer, exercise also appears to reduce a woman's risk of breast and possibly reproductive cancers. It has been also reported that one in every three cancer case could be prevented following healthy life style.
4. Avoid Radiation Exposure
Skin cancer is also a very common type of cancer that occurs due to exposure of radiations like ultra-violet rays from sun. Sun-protection can be done by using sunscreen, eye glasses, hat etc which not only reduces the risk of skin cancers but also other melanomas.
5. Get vaccinated from infections that have a chance of causing cancer
Vaccines also help in preventing cancers. Human papillomavirus (HPV), HIV and Hepatitis B vaccination is become important today, as infection from these increases the risk of melanomas and other skin cancers.
6. Get regular medical screening
Regular medical check-up increases the chance of cancer prevention especially for the cancers like breast, cervical, and colorectal (colon) cancers early
Keeping lots of care for us, we should always be alert if any findings or symptoms appear in our body. The American Cancer Society developed this simple reminder years ago to keep an observation and consult physician if ever needed like
• C: Change in bowel or bladder habits
• A: A sore that does not heal
• U: Unusual bleeding or discharge
• T: Thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere
• I: Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing
• O: Obvious change in a wart or mole
• N: Nagging cough or hoarseness
Early diagnosis although is very good for cancer prevention but it is the best measure to follow healthy lifestyle to avoid from causing cancer.
