What Are Paralympic sports? - The paralympic games are the Pinnacles of sporting achievement for athletes with physical and mental Disabilities, It showcases elite athletes who are the best in the world but are People with an impairment
The Paralympics games date back to 1948 during World War 2, with an archery tournament for 16 Individuals in wheelchairs, in an English Hospital as part of the Patient's rehabilitation, coinciding with the London Olympic Games. it was also done to Help wounded Soldiers to get alternative careers. The event has now grown into competition and a recreational sporting event with more than 4000 Para - Athletes from more than 164 countries participating. The major feature of the Paralympic Games is the wide variety of games/Events.
At the RIO Paralympics Games 2016, there were 22 sports, encompassing 528 events, while there were 28 Sports encompassing 306 events in the Rio 2016 Olympics Games. This is because of the broad range of athlete's disabilities and the required number of corresponding events.
Paralympics started on 24 August this year and will end on 5 of September 2021. A total of 54 sportspersons will be taking part in the Paralympics Games, 2021. we have our Competitors in 9 different Sporting events, Namely, Athletics, Badminton, archery, Canoeing. Shooting, Swimming, Powerlifting, Table Tennis, and Taekwondo.
The Paralympics Games 2021, is special this year, as we have high hopes from our amateurs athletes, Namely,
Devendra Jhajhariya -He is the first Indian Paralympics player to win two gold medals at the Paralympics. He won his first gold in the javelin throw at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, becoming the second gold medalist at the Paralympics for his country. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, he won a second gold medal in the same event, bettering his previous record. He also won a Gold in Men's Champion Thrower on 14 September 2020.
The second Star athlete is Mariyappan Thangavelu, he is an Indian Paralympic high jumper. He represented India in the 2016 Summer Paralympic games held in Rio de Janeiro in the men's high jump T-42 category, winning the gold medal in the finals. On 25 January 2017, the Government of India conferred him with the Padma Shri award for his contribution towards sports and in the same year, he was also awarded Arjuna Award. He was awarded Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in the year 2020 by the Government of India.
The third amateur is, Sandeep Chaudhary is an Indian track and field para-athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He represented India at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta, Indonesia where he won a gold medal and set a new world record of 60.01 m (196.9 ft) with his third throw in the F42-44/61-64 category. The previous world record was set in 1980 by Chinese athlete Gao Mingjie. also, At World Para Athletics' 2021 Dubai Grand Prix, Chaudhary won a gold medal with 61.22 m (200.9 ft). At the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Chaudhary won the gold medal with a world record throw of 66.18 m (217.1 ft).

Rubina Francis is an Indian para pistol shooter. She is currently ranked number five by the International Shooting Sport Federation in Women's 10m Air Pistol SH1 (World Shooting Para Sports Rankings) and she also participated in the 2018 Asian Para Games P2 - Women's 10M Air Pistol (SH1 Events).
and, Avani Lekhara is an Indian Para Rifle Shooter. She is currently World No 5 in Women's 10m Air Rifle standing SH1 (World Shooting Para Sports Rankings) and she also participated in the 2018 Asian Para Games R2 - Women's 10M Air Rifle Standing, R3 - Mixed 10M Air Rifle Prone, R6 - Mixed 50M Rifle Prone and R8 - Women's 50M Rifle 3 Position (SH1 Events).
To date, in Table Tennis, India's para table tennis player Bhavina Patel qualified for the semi - finals of the Tokyo Paralympics, she ousted Chia's world No. 3 Zhang Miao to enter the gold-medal match of women's singles Class 4 event, The Indian will take on another Chinese in the final, world No. 1 Zhou Ying, for a top spot on the podium tomorrow (Aug 29) at 7:15 am IST.
Looking into Women's Powerlifting, India's Sakina Khatun finished fifth in women's 50 Kg powerlifting final in the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.
In Archery, Women's Compound Individual Open, open ranking round: Jyoti Baliyan ranked 15th.
At the archery venue, India's Shyam Sundar has been eliminated by USA's Matt Stutzman 139-142 in the 1/16 round.
India's Rakesh Kumar defeated Hong Kong's Ka Chuen Ngai 144-131 to win his 1/16 Elimination match of men's individual compound archery event. Rakesh will next take on Marian Marecak of Slovenia in the Round-of-16 match on Aug 31 at 7:15 am IST.
