An embarrassing incident went viral when a man, Abdul Qadir, faced an urgent situation at Bhopal station. Traveling with his wife and 8-year-old son from Hyderabad to Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, the family had a layover at Bhopal station while waiting for their next train. In need of a restroom, Abdul boarded an Indore-bound Vande Bharat train, but a mishap occurred when the train unexpectedly started moving, locking him inside.
Locked Inside: Man's Unsuccessful Attempt to Find Help
Abdul sought help from three ticket collectors and police personnel on the train, but to no avail. They explained that only the train's driver could open the locked doors. As a result, Abdul had to pay a fine of Rs 1,020 for boarding the Vande Bharat train without a ticket. He had to disembark at the next station, Ujjain, and incurred an additional expense of Rs 750 for a bus ticket back to Bhopal.
Costly Consequences: The Financial Toll of the Viral Incident
Abdul's absence on the train caused his wife to forgo boarding the Singrauli-bound Dakshin Express, leading to the loss of a Rs 4,000 train ticket. In total, the dry fruit shop owner incurred a loss of at least Rs 6,000 due to his misadventure on the Vande Bharat train. He also expressed concern about the lack of an emergency system on high-tech trains, leading to mental harassment for his family during the incident.
Safety Measures and Responses: Railway Division's Perspective
The PRO of Bhopal Railway Division, Subedar Singh, responded to the allegations, stating that announcements are made before the Vande Bharat train starts, indicating the direction in which the doors will open and that the doors will be locked. These safety measures are implemented for the well-being of passengers and to prevent accidents. The Vande Bharat train can only be stopped upon receiving orders from higher authorities.
Lessons Learned: Addressing Passenger Assistance and Emergency Systems
The viral incident highlights the importance of clear communication and emergency protocols on trains to avoid such mishaps in the future. Abdul's ordeal sheds light on the need for better passenger assistance and systems to ensure passenger safety during unexpected situations on high-tech trains.
