With the Sushant Singh Rajput death case bringing on a huge focus on the film industry’s connection with drugs, a lot of shock revelations have been made. Not just these, but lots of popular names from showbiz have also come on the NCB’s radar. Some of them have been actress Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, etc. While it was late Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakroborty and his talent manager, Jaya Saha who exposed these names, their confessions have brought attention to a dark side of the glamour world.  

Well, as far as India’s connection to drug consumption is concerned it has been reported that there has been a rise in the number of consumptions of banned substances by young people, which in turn has also led an increase in crimes. And looking at the drug-related laws in India, our country has been very strict towards the consumption and possession of any narcotic substances. And as per the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 it is illegal for any person to produce/manufacture/cultivate, possess, sell, purchase, or consume any narcotic or psychotropic substances. Another law that was implemented in order to enforce the NDPS act in a better way was the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. 

As per these laws, a total of 237 drugs have been banned in our country and some popular names we must have heard with reference to our Bollywood actors consuming them have been marihuana, hash, weed, cocaine, Heroin, CBD oil, MDMA, etc. As per actress Kangana Ranaut, these drugs are very common and freely available at Bollywood parties. In fact, she had even shared how MDMA crystals were dissolved and served in water to the guests. Now if you are wondering why these drugs are banned read on... 

 Major Source of these drugs - The Cannabis Plant

Most of the major and widely consumed psychoactive drugs have the Cannabis plant as its major component. Be it your Marijuana, Hash or Hashish, Weed, THC, CBD Oil, Bhang, etc are also produced from the Cannabis plants or its parts. And these are the drugs that cause various mental and physical effects like euphoria, altered state of mind, impaired short term memory, and body movement. These drugs might also lead to hallucinations, paranoia, and schizophrenia-like symptoms. With knowing about these drugs, you might remember two videos of late Sushant Singh Rajput that surfaced online, where the actor was seen in a rather unusual personality.  

And if you recall, his girlfriend Rhea had also revealed how the actor was an addict of marijuana, no wonder the consumption of this drug put in him in a headspace like that. While his conditions in those videos taken months before his suicide showed the actor having drastic mood swings, it was a rather heartbreaking state to see such a bright actor be in.  

MDMA – what is it and what it does?

And it is not just the Cannabis plant, but another synthetic drug known as MDMA, which alters mood and perceptions around ones surrounding. This drug also produces feelings of increased energy, pleasure, emotional warmth, and distorted sense and time perceptions. Commonly also known as ecstasy or molly, this drug is popular in night clubs and even in rave parties. Whoever consumes this drug, takes it either in a tablet form, liquid state, or snorts it. This drug causes some health issues like chills, blurred vision, sweating, involuntary teeth clenching, nausea, and muscle cramps. It also affects the activity of three brain chemicals – dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin.  

In case you remember, this is the same drug that actress Kangana Ranaut had spoken about on Twitter, she had said how MDMA crystals are mixed in water and served to guests sometimes without their knowledge at big Bollywood parties.  

Well, yes, Bollywood’s drug nexus is one ugly truth and as it unfolds, we see many of our favorite stars coming under its clutches. And it’s a big chain of peddlers and actors, though Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty were one link who have been arrested by the NCB, another major link Jaya Saha (who had a chat with Rhea about putting CBD Oil in someone’s drink) has also been questioned by the NCB and is likely to go behind bars. As for the other names, only time will tell, what punishment awaits them for the consumption of such dangerous and illegal drugs. Stay tuned!
