India's men's hockey team beat Malaysia 5-1 in Kakamigahara, Japan, on 3 October 2026 to keep the Asian Games gold. It is a second straight Asian Games title and India's fifth men's hockey gold at the Games.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored in the 11th and 57th minutes. Jugraj Singh, Hardik Singh and Shilanand Lakra were also on the scoresheet. Shello Silverius replied for Malaysia in the 14th minute.
The win books the men a direct place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The women's team had already beaten China 1-0 for gold and the same Olympic berth. Manpreet Singh became the first Indian hockey player with three Asian Games golds.
The final was played on 3 October 2026 in Kakamigahara. India won 5-1. Harmanpreet Singh scored in the 11th and 57th minutes, Jugraj Singh in the 23rd, Hardik Singh in the 42nd and Lakra in the 54th. Malaysia replied through Silverius in the 14th. It is a fifth men's Asian Games gold, the first successful defence, and a direct place at Los Angeles 2028. The women had already beaten China 1-0 for gold and the same Olympic berth. Manpreet Singh became the first Indian hockey player with three Asian Games golds.
