Daniel Shapero has become LinkedIn’s new chief executive officer—an insider at 18 years old.

Dan Shapero has been hired by Microsoft to become the new CEO of its LinkedIn business, replacing Ryan Roslansky, who has headed the subsidiary since 2020. The shift comes into effect immediately.

This is the first time that Shapero has moved to the chief executive officer role since she had worked with LinkedIn as vice president of global sales in 2008, later becoming VP of product, chief business officer, chief operating officer, and now chief executive officer.

The transformations occur as LinkedIn hits the quarterly revenue during the first in its history in the form of $5 billion in revenues, which is placed on the annual run rate of more than $20 billion, and LinkedIn now has more than 1.3 billion members and 70 million companies.

Microsoft has announced the appointment of Mohak Shroff as president of platforms and digital work, in addition to the appointment of Shapero, with a focus on technology strategy and AI-driven long-term innovation across LinkedIn and the workplace-related Microsoft digital platform businesses.

Shapero used AI as a framing device, as he wrote that the power of LinkedIn has never been as great as it is now as the world is being changed by AI and that every professional in the world has to move with it. Now the world's largest professional network starts a new chapter.
