The meeting of the OpenAI Deployment Company, funded with over $4 billion by investors such as TPG, Bain Capital, and others, has been revealed by OpenAI. The company will provide client organizations with its own set of specialized AI engineers who will be embedded within their organizations to discover high-impact opportunities in AI and speed up deployment.
OpenAI is also buying UK-based AI consultancy firm Tomoro for the launch to get going with AI with great people. The shift is part of OpenAI's and its competitor Anthropic's push to expand into enterprise AI offerings and gain a bigger stake in the huge market for new AI deployments currently dominated by Indian IT solutions firms such as their rival TCS and Infosys.
Some analysts have expressed the view that this tailored services branch may be more of a threat to traditional IT consulting companies, providing the know-how for in-depth and model-native AI deployment expertise. The new company, whose value is reportedly $10 billion, is an ominous sign that OpenAI's intent is going to move beyond developing its models to full-fledged enterprise transformation.
