SpaceX's IPO by Elon Musk is actually going to take place, and it may be the largest IPO in human history. The company privately submitted a filing to the US SEC and is aiming at an outrageous valuation of 1.75 trillion, which will result in it being bigger than the record-breaking 2019 listing of Saudi Aramco.
However, the big question that every Indian investor is posing is, can I invest in SpaceX, and how?
The candid truth: At this point in time, regular retail investors are not allowed to invest in direct investments. SpaceX remains privately owned. Nevertheless, Musk has ensured that 30 percent of IPO shares will be retained by the retail investors when it becomes public—which will happen around mid-2026.
The benefits that can be accrued by Indian investors are:
- Wait to be listed on the IPO and invest in international broking applications such as Vested or INDmoney or in the US stocks feature of Groww.
- Invest indirectly with the space ETFs, which already have the exposure to SpaceX.
- Monitor Alphabet (Google) stock. Google has been a stakeholder in SpaceX since 2015.
A significant caution is one warning that SpaceX is valued at almost 100x its revenue at its current valuation of 1.75 trillion. Observers have recommended that one wait until the prices correct after the IPO.
The SpaceX IPO is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Be knowledgeable, be patient, and invest wisely.
