Since California start-up Reflect Orbital is a controversial concept that has been making news, it involves placing a constellation of up to 50,000 satellites with giant mirrors, which reflect sunlight onto the dark side of the planet. The company plans to illuminate a certain radius as far as 3 miles long (within a specific radius) with a 60-foot prototype satellite (Earendil-1) this year to apply their stocking to extensions of the solar farms after the sun goes down, during emergency rescues, or during street lighting.
According to founder Ben Nowack, the price of the light of one mirror on annual 1000+ hour contracts was going to be about 5000 (5000 emperor) for the one mirror at the New York Times. It is planned to have 1,000 satellites in 2029, 5,000 in 2030, and 50,000 in 2035.
Though enthusiasts view it as a solution to intermittency in solar energy and a boost to renewable energy, opponents, such as astronomers, fear it causes light pollution, disturbances to wildlife, and environmental hazards due to a change in the skies during the night. Interest applications have exceeded 2.6 lakh on the concept, and these show curiosity despite the doubt over its practicability and effects.
