A controversial event at the Press Club of India in Delhi on August 20 saw participants recite the ‘Shri Modi Chalisa’ and perform aarti before a cutout of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, depicted in a god-like form. Slogans such as “Jai Jai Modi” and “Har Har Modi” were also raised.
The Press Club clarified that it did not organise the programme. The hall had been hired for a press conference, but the terms were violated, following which authorities intervened and stopped the event.
The organiser, Rajan Singh, vice-president of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board, defended the gathering and announced plans to build a grand temple dedicated to “Lord Shri Narendra Modi” in Bihar. The proposed temple, estimated to cost Rs 112 crore and spread over five acres, is being planned as a mark of gratitude for the rights and opportunities provided to the transgender community under the Modi government.
