Actor Suriya Sivakumar is proving that being a hero is not limited to the silver screen for the Tamil cinema superstar. He has been working under the radar to make a change in thousands of lives by offering them free education and scholarships and helping them with their studies through his Agaram Foundation (established in 2006), which supports needy students of rural backgrounds, Dalit, Adivasi, tribal groups, and Sri Lankan refugees in Tamil Nadu.

The foundation targets first-generation learners that usually are less exposed to higher education because of financial reasons. Agaram picks up bright students of the government schools, provides coaching, tuition, and lodging, and fully finances professional courses such as medicine and engineering.

The latest posts on social media and virtual news (February 2026) mention the impressive successes of the foundation:

  • 51 physicians (and more than 70 in certain revised accounts)—most of them are currently working in a community as working physicians.
  • Close to 1,800 full-time engineers (maximum 1,750 in official numbers) are developing a career in technology, infrastructure, and innovation.
  • More than 8,000+ students served on the whole, with 6,700+ first-generation graduates and hundreds of paramedics, diploma graduates, and arts/science professionals.

Such programs as Vidhai (vocation to higher education) and Nammadhu Palli Fellowship (placing young changemakers into rural schools to lower the number of dropouts) have provided a sustainable template. The foundation unobtrusively provides the free seats to deserving students in colleges, hostels, and mentorships without advertising and hoopla.

Suriya, together with his wife, Jyotika, has stressed that education is the key to breaking the vicious poverty cycle and a means of generational transformation. During interviews and foundation updates, he has indicated that it is giving back and opening the door where there was none. The results can be seen, as these graduates are now physicians who are healing patients, engineers who are finding a solution, and professionals who are bringing their families and their villages higher.

This achievement, which will be the cause of celebration on Instagram, Threads, and X at the beginning of 2026, teaches us that the actual success lies with lives changed, not the ticket sales. The example of Agaram by Suriya is a bright example of a properly made celebrity philanthropy, silent, comfortable, and thorough to the core.
