In the Farmers Day program in Baghpat Collectorate, in Uttar Pradesh, a unique and vulnerable sight occurred: the pet langur of Asmita Lal, district magistrate, called Matru, was casually wandering into the ongoing meeting of the farmers and officers in Baghpat.
The langur walked up directly to the table of the DM, and Asmita Lal, a higher court IAS officer of the 2015 batch who has the reputation of being an animal lover, rose on her feet with a smile. She promptly bade Matru to come and sit on her chair, saying, "Sit here," and the animal sat comfortably.
The surprise invader momentarily startled the company, but the element was one of laughter instead of confusion, since Matru is a household name within the collectorate grounds. Social media has massively shared the video of the incident, and netizens have celebrated the compassion of the IAS officer and his calmness.
Asmita Lal is also well-liked due to the meals she took with the farmers and her work on animal welfare in the district.
