The veteran actor Anil Kapoor gave a heartwarming confession on March 15 at the India Today Conclave 2026 when he disclosed that he continues to get royalty checks 18 years later due to the 2008 Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire despite not being the lead actor in it. More than a decade and a half later, he said emotionally yesterday, Once more, I received a paycheck for Slumdog Millionaire, and the current sum was £3,000 (approx. 3.6 lakh).
Kapoor remembered that at the start the makers were unable to pay his fee, so he volunteered to do the film without charge. "I said, 'I'll do it for free.' They self-gave it, he said, which is why the revenue-sharing structure has been quite profitable through time. "I will get nearly half a million pounds," I added. So, I am a millionaire. I didn't ask for it."
The payments paid even after taxes show the long-term gains of supporting visionary projects. The tale had far-reaching effects, with fans celebrating the generosity of Kapoor and the sustained success of the film and making a simple altruistic act a revenue generator throughout his lifetime.
