John Nolan, a veteran British actor who played Wayne Enterprises board member Douglas Fredericks in Christopher Nolan's directing of Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), died on April 11, 2026, at the age of 87.
Nolan also played starring roles in the CBS series Person of Interest as John Greer and in other works directed by his nephews, such as Christopher and Jonathan Nolan. His career in theater, television, and film was long and fruitful.
Topping the tributes was Christopher Nolan, but he did so with a very personal sentiment: “My uncle John was the first artist I knew, and he taught me more than anyone the search towards the truth in acting and the joys of creative achievement." I miss him greatly, though I take great comfort in my recollections of John, those moments we shared together.
The Stratford-upon-Avon Herald was the first to report the news. John Nolan is a family man who is survived by his wife Kim Hartman and their children and grandchildren. His contributions have lived on, and his death has been followed with condolences by his fans and the film industry, who remember that he played significant roles in some of the most iconic movies ever made.
