The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was involved in a social media outburst after some of its blunders were noticed in a ceremony, Naman Awards 2026, held to praise cricketing performances in the 2024-2025 season. The most conspicuous mistake was made when one of the broadcast graphics identified the wrong captain of the 2025 Champions Trophy-winning team of India, which belongs to Rohit Sharma (Shubman Gill was the captain of India in 2017).
Rohit's fans went on the internet attacking the BCCI as having written the history backward and being disrespectful. Reactions such as "Don't rewrite history," "daylight robbery," and "kuch toh sharm karo" were flooded with most people accusing it of putting a question mark on the professionalism of the board. The video of the misplaced graphic became viral, and there was rampant trolling of the event organizers and the producers.
Reports show that the faulty clip was removed later, though the damage was done. Smaller skid steps, such as the problem that arose during felicitations of other teams, such as the Women's U-19 team, contributed to the criticism. The event superseded joyful scenes, including blistering fire with players like Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson, because the netizens insisted that the governing body of cricket should be more detail-conscious.
