The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a satirical political movement founded on May 16, 2026 by 30-year-old Abhijeet Dipke, a former AAP social media volunteer and Boston University student. It emerged as a humorous response to Chief Justice Surya Kant’s remark comparing some unemployed youth to “cockroaches” during a court hearing.
Positioning itself as the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed,” CJP uses tongue-in-cheek slogans like “Secular – Socialist – Democratic – Lazy” and has eligibility criteria including being unemployed, chronically online, and able to rant professionally. Its rapid rise saw the Instagram account surpass major parties with over 10-18 million followers in days.
The party maintains a website (cockroachjantaparty.org) with a satirical manifesto and Google form sign-ups that attracted tens of thousands quickly. Its official X account was withheld in India following a legal demand, but a new handle quickly appeared. The movement highlights youth frustration over unemployment, exam scams, and economic issues through sharp satire, gaining attention from figures like Dhruv Rathee.
While not a registered political party yet, CJP has sparked nationwide debate on youth discontent and freedom of expression.
