Producer Farhan Akhtar shared a humorous anecdote about the origins of the hit series Mirzapur during the trailer launch of Mirzapur: The Movie. Recalling his first meeting with writer Puneet Krishna, Akhtar said the ideas presented were so unconventional that the team’s initial reaction was extreme.

“When Puneet first came to us, our first instinct was to take him to a psychiatrist, but then we thought if we made the show, people could get into it,” Farhan revealed. He went on to credit Krishna and director Gurmmeet Singh as the real heroes behind the franchise’s success.

Mirzapur: The Movie, produced by Excel Entertainment, expands the gritty world of Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Pandit and others to the big screen. Akhtar also noted that strong fan demand was a key reason for bringing the story to theatres. The film aims to work for both longtime viewers and newcomers to the series.
