One of the most spectacular acts of Indian hospitality has now been virally spread after British traveler and cyclist Duncan Evans posted an emotional account of his experience with an elderly Indian villager in a rural area.
As he cycled in the scorching heat in the fields, the pleasant-looking old man approached Duncan and did not only provide some guidance but also beckoned him into his humble home to have a cool glass of old-fashioned buttermilk (chaas).
The ingenuous, but evidently heartfelt, move touched the tourist, who in turn wrote how the kindest man he had come face-to-face with was the villager he had encountered riding across India on the bicycle. The clip in which the two individuals are depicted sharing a warm welcome and the refreshing beverage has inundated social media with the reverent phrases of India that convey that the country believes in the Atithi Devo Bhava spirit.
The selfless gesture by the old man was acclaimed by netizens as an unprecedented illustration of the unsurpassed hospitality and generosity of rural India, which persists to elicit universal applause. The video is still going viral with positive messages.
