Released independently, the track featuring vocals by Arijit Singh and starring Dulquer Salmaan in its music video has become only the second completely artist-funded independent song in history to reach this figure, after AP Dhillon, Gurinder Gill and Shinda Kahlon’s ‘Brown Munde’.
Composed and sung by Royal with lyrics by Aditya Sharma, ‘Heeriye’ debuted at No. 1 on YouTube’s Global Trending Music Videos chart and has also surpassed 512 million streams on Spotify.
Royal described the achievement as validation for independent music, calling the song “a risk, an emotional investment and a statement that independent music can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the biggest commercial releases.” By retaining ownership of the masters and funding its global promotion herself, she has highlighted the growing power of artist-led projects in the industry.
