Hrithik Roshan recently recalled a painful chapter in his family’s life when his father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, suffered major financial losses after the failure of the 1997 film Koyla. The Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit starrer underperformed commercially, and Rakesh, who had invested heavily, lost nearly all his savings.
In an old interview that has resurfaced, Hrithik said, “There was a time, I think after Koyla, when there were some problems at home. He had lost all his money. Whatever he had earned… I saw him one morning and he said, ‘I have lost everything.’ That was the first time I saw tears in his eyes.”
The setback was so severe that Rakesh later had to mortgage the family house and cars to launch Hrithik with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The debut film’s success rescued the family financially. The revelation highlights the high-stakes risks of film production in Bollywood and the emotional toll it took on the Roshan household.
