Ved was actually his late friend, and Imtiaz Ali presents this about his film Emotional Confession: Tamasha.
Director Imtiaz Ali appeared infrequently and vulnerable at a fan meet-up in Mumbai, shedding tears as he shared a heart-to-heart secret about Tamasha, the first time he had divulged it.
Imtiaz made a new friend, Ved Vardhan Tripathi, an English boy who had moved to 5th standard as a shy child who could not make friends. Imtiaz felt himself secure and free of self-consciousness about him.
Some years later, Imtiaz got to know that his dear friend had died. The enigma of his loss remained with him. Even when writing Tamasha many decades after, there was that name of Ved hidden in script that seemed to be unconscious.
When Tamasha came out, Imtiaz would go to see his friend in London, and they told him he was a delinquent who craved something bigger and adored music, which is exactly the same soul of the film.
An in-your-face tribute. Place friendship in the film. This time it is Tamasha on a different note.
