Former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen is facing online backlash after a video from the Miss Universe India 2026 finale in Jaipur went viral.
Netizens have accused her of ignoring the newly crowned winner, 19-year-old Kaziah Liz Mejo from Kerala, while showing more attention to first runner-up and Miss International India 2026 Vaishnavi Gannesh. In the clip, Sushmita briefly congratulates Kaziah before walking towards Vaishnavi, consoling her, removing and readjusting her crown, and interacting more warmly with her.
The video, shared widely on social media, has led many to claim favouritism. Sushmita was part of the high-profile jury that also included Urvashi Rautela and Celina Jaitly. Kaziah was crowned by outgoing titleholder Manika Vishwakarma after competing against 52 finalists.
The controversy has divided opinions, with some defending Sushmita’s gestures as natural support for a runner-up, while others question the optics of the moment involving the national winner.
