Ashwati Damodaran: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of the most versatile and most acclaimed Indian film music singers, died on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 92, in the Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. On Saturday evening, she was taken to the hospital because of her severe fatigue and the chest infection but died as a result of multi-organ failure.
The news was confirmed by her son Anand Bhosle, who said that her last rites will take place on Monday at 4 PM at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. Asha Bhosle sang more than 12,000 songs in various languages, making her the Queen of Playback Singing. Her remarkable contribution in cinema was rewarded by the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and several National Film Awards.
The world has been saddened with tributes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, music industry icons, and fans at large mourning the demise of a memorable era. The eternal songs of Asa Ji will live to reverberate in the hearts of millions for generations to come.
