Two decades after the hit comedy Malamaal Weekly, the sequel is finally taking shape. Riteish Deshmukh, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav — who starred in the 2006 original — have been locked for the lead roles in Malamaal Weekly 2.
Popular YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav has also joined the principal cast. While Riteish is still finalising the script, sources confirm the actors are verbally onboard and paperwork is underway.
The film will be directed by Amit Joshi, known for Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. It is not a direct sequel but retains the spirit of the original — a chaotic story involving greedy villagers chasing a large sum of money.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in November 2026. The original Malamaal Weekly, directed by Priyadarshan, remains a cult favourite for its hilarious village antics and remains one of the most loved comedies of its time.
