Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty underwent a minor surgery at a private hospital in Kolkata on Thursday night. Doctors at Peerless Hospital removed a metal plate from his right elbow that had been implanted two years earlier after a fracture. The plate was pressing on the ulnar nerve, and the one-hour procedure was successful.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Chakraborty on Friday morning, spoke with him and the doctors, and shared a social media update praying for his speedy recovery. Adhikari said the actor had wanted the hospitalisation kept private and is doing well, with discharge expected soon.
Hospital sources confirmed Chakraborty is in stable condition and showing improvement in finger sensation. The CM described him as an “asset of Bengal” for his contributions to cinema and politics. Fans and well-wishers have been sending messages for a quick recovery.
