Media streaming service Netflix is undertaking another massive shakeup with the launch of a new update to their platform in which each user is assigned a new email address. With the previous settings, multiple profiles for multiple users could use the same login email address, but this is no longer the case.

With the new policy, it is believed that the safety of accounts will improve, recommendation algorithms will be better, and parental control will be more powerful. For those plans shared with the family, users will need to use/connect multiple email addresses per plan profile now.

The update has received varying responses online. Some people enjoy the convenience and privacy it provides, and others with big families feel the change won't be convenient. Netflix has, for the first time, started to inform all subscribers and is offering a seamless upgrade process.

The decision comes as part of Netflix's ongoing quest to improve users' experience and combat issues surrounding account sharing. Users are strongly encouraged to keep their profiles up to date at all times with the aim of not causing any disruption to service. Changes being rolled out in phases worldwide.
