To candidly reveal this fact, Karisma Kapoor has stated that all the leading actresses of that time had refused to work in Yash Chopra's ‘Dil toh pagal hai’ (1997) when they didn't want to go against Madhuri Dixit. The movie had many high-drama scenes of dancing, one of which involved a big competition number where the two female leads faced off against each other—so much so that many were scared off.
In the beginning, Karisma even declined the offer to dance as Nisha and go head to head with Madhuri, stating that “no one wanted to dance with Madhuri and compete with her.” Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra, and her mom Babita had to urge her to read the script before she agreed. It did pay off because she had the performance of her career and won the National Award.
Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma starred in this film, which turned out to be a blockbuster musical romance. Other female celebrities also reportedly refused the same reasons, including Manisha Koirala. Karisma's story touches upon the dancing skills that no other girl possessed in the 90s and the bold decision that helped Karisma become a dance queen as well in this case. The news has reignited “Memoria” chills.
