Hasan Jahangir, a Pakistani singer, revealed he was paid by the producers of the blockbuster film Dhurandhar to use his famous 1987 track Hawa Hawa in the movie to the tune of 50000 dollars (roughly hawk in rupees). The song, which was first recorded in 1986, plays in the background as Sanjay Dutt walks in the Ranveer Singh-starrer spy thriller directed by Aditya Dhar.
In one of the viral interviews, Jahangir assured that the filmmakers obtained his formal consent to the usage, with a comment on the practice development of copyright. He said, "Unhone meri permission li..." Whereas previously the copyright system did not exist at all, people taking my music nowadays have to request permission. The payment underlines the long-range success of the nostalgic songs in South Park, Bollywood, despite the fact that Dhurandhar (and its follow-up buzz) tops media headlines even after having grossed huge box-office revenues.
The disclosure has been a trending topic in social media, with the producers of the movie not making any official remarks yet.
