Pocket FM, one of the top audio entertainment startups in India, has made a drastic cut, sacking close to 100 employees or about 10% of its workforce. Government bans on content were mainly restricted to the content team, as the company strives for better efficiency and profitability.
Besides the casualties of the 'restructure,' Pocket FM has transferred more than 2,000 contractual employees to Quess Corp's payroll to optimize costs. According to sources, the move is part of a restructuring drive aimed at making the entity leaner and more efficient in its business due to declining growth and the need to make a profit.
It is not the first time for the company to make cuts, as it has gone through a few restructurings in the last 18 months. Pocket FM is still struggling with its micro-dramas and audio series to maintain high growth, as seen in the last few years.
The move has raised eyebrows over the health of India's audio streaming space, but the company hasn't made an official statement.
