The newly released trailer of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, has left audiences intrigued by several mythological elements. One striking visual is a majestic white elephant engaged in a grand aerial battle.
This elephant is Airavata (also spelled Airavat), the divine vahana or mount of Lord Indra, the king of the gods. According to Hindu mythology, Airavata emerged during the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) and is described as a pure white elephant with multiple tusks, often depicted with wings or extraordinary powers.
Its appearance in the trailer is believed to reference Ravana’s conquest of Swarga (heaven) and his battle with Indra, during which Meghnad (Indrajit) earned his name. By including Airavata, the filmmakers ground the epic in authentic mythological iconography while delivering spectacular visual storytelling. The detail has added to the growing excitement around the film’s grand scale and faithfulness to the source material.
