Ranbir Kapoor has finally responded to the criticism surrounding his casting as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part epic Ramayana. Addressing the debate, the actor said, “There is no right actor to play Lord Ram.”
He explained that Lord Ram is deeply ingrained in the collective subconscious of people, making it impossible for any single performer to be the definitive choice. Ranbir emphasised that the role is more about representing the character with faith and sincerity rather than “playing” him in a conventional sense.
The film, which also stars Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Sunny Deol as Hanuman, is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release, with its trailer set to drop soon. Ranbir’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the suitability of a contemporary Bollywood star portraying one of Hinduism’s most revered figures. The actor’s measured response has sparked fresh conversations about artistic interpretation versus traditional expectations.
