Siddharth Malhotra is a Bollywood star whose father, Sunil Malhotra died on February 17, 2026, after succumbing to a short-lasting disease. He was 78. The longtime Delhi-based financier and retired merchant marine had been receiving medical treatment in recent weeks, however, his health had gotten bad in a sudden burst resulting in his death in Mumbai.

The family had decided that it would be a secret at first and they would concentrate on the last rites and grieve as a family. The mortal remains of Sunil Malhotra were made available in Delhi where the funeral and burial was done on February 18, 2026, at the Nigambodh Ghat with close family members alone present. His parents, Sidharth Malhotra and Geeta Malhotra, his elder brother, Harshad Malhotra, and his close family members attended the ritual ceremony. There was no public announcement until this was done after the cremation was done and thus the family wanted privacy at this moment of need.

This was a personal life low profile who has always kept his personal life under wraps but in the early morning hours, Sidharth Malhotra was spotted at the cremation ground wearing a plain white kurta. He was calm during the process, but he was clearly emotional when he was performing the last rites on his father. The friends and colleagues in the industry like Kiara Advani (his fiancee), Karan Johar, Rohit Shetty, and some of his close co-stars sent their heartfelt condolences privately but did not want to disturb the family by their presence or media at the venue.

Sunil Malhotra was an ex-merchant navy officer with an ultimately successful career in the merchant navy and then shifted to business. He has a strong reputation of a disciplined life, a passion of reading, and a silent encouragement of the acting career by Sidharth amongst friends and family. Sidharth, during interviews, has frequently praised the father with regards to the values and hard work and has attributed to him the development of a sense of responsibility and humility.

The information about the death of Sunil Malhotra was leaked slowly to the industry on February 18 afternoon and the condolence of the news was pouring in on social media. There were messages of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon and many others who were personally acquainted with the Malhotra family.

Sidharth Malhotra has not made any public statement yet and the family has asked people not to intrude into their privacy as they grieve their loss. The ashes of Sunil Malhotra will be immersed within few days according to the Hindu rituals.
