As the Maharashtra FDA issues notices to Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Tiger Shroff over alleged surrogate advertising for Vimal Elaichi, their earlier defences of controversial brand deals have resurfaced.
Shah Rukh Khan once argued that if products like cigarettes or soft drinks are harmful, authorities should ban their production and sale entirely. “I would appeal to any authority to ban it… Don’t stop my revenue. I’m an actor. I’m supposed to do a job and earn from it,” he said, pointing out that governments continue allowing such products because they generate revenue.
Ajay Devgn has maintained that endorsing products is a “personal choice.” Referring to his elaichi ads, he said he was promoting cardamom and added, “If certain things are so wrong, then they should not be sold.” Both stars have consistently shifted the focus from celebrity endorsements to the need for stronger regulation of the products themselves.
