On April 12-13, 2026, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Thalapathy Vijay was briefly involved in a security scare when attending an election campaign rally at Kanyakumari. When he was peddling among a large group of fans during his characteristic roadshow, one of the fans was incensed and threw a round object at him.
Vijay at once leaped off the racing bicycle and ran towards his security car. His staff hurried to the rescue to establish a safety circle and caused temporary havoc and panic amongst the crowd. The item, which exploded on hitting its target, happened to be a ball of flowers, a typical form of appreciation by the fans.
Once the area was secured, Vijay was quick to go back to campaigning. The event, which was recorded on several videos, has trended on social media, with much discussion about the use of crowd control, the aggressive security sensitivity shown by the actor during his maiden electoral exercise, and the problem of close-contact political rallies in Tamil Nadu. There were no reported injuries.
