Tamil film veteran K. Rajan, who worked as a film director and producer, passed away peacefully on his own due to suicide on Sunday, 17th May, 2026, at the age of 85. The police have said that he had been traveling in his vehicle and came down the Adyar Bridge in the river Adyar. Shortly after, his body was retrieved by fire and rescue teams.
K. Rajan was a renowned name in the Tamil film industry and has produced various popular pictures such as Thangamana Thangachi. He had spoken out about problems raised in the film industry, especially in relation to the salaries of the young stars and the problems of producers in recent years. There was no suicide note in his possession, and the circumstances of his suicide are unclear. Police have registered a case, and they are investigating.
The news has woken up the Tamil film industry in shock. Among the first to mourn and show emotional condolences were actors Khushbu Sundar, Vishal, and R. Sarathkumar, recalling Rajan with respect as a fearless, vigorous personality that has made indelible footprints in Tamil films for decades.
