Vikrant Massey has revealed that he almost turned down the role in Chhapaak opposite Deepika Padukone because of self-doubt. In a recent interview, the actor admitted he was hesitant about the pairing, thinking they wouldn’t look good together.
“Deepika’s a big star. She’s as tall as me. We won’t look good together,” Massey recalled thinking at the time. He nearly backed out of the project due to concerns over their height similarity and her massive star power.
Director Meghna Gulzar, however, encouraged him to trust the casting decision and convinced him to stay on. Massey eventually took up the role of Amol Dwivedi in the 2020 film, which starred Deepika as an acid-attack survivor inspired by Laxmi Agarwal.
The revelation offers a fresh glimpse into the actor’s early career insecurities and how guidance from the director helped him overcome them to deliver a notable performance in the socially relevant drama.
