Many people do not realize how common vitamin B12 deficiency can be and may see symptoms of the deficiency on their face and eyes. Given that these symptoms are early indicators to look watchful for, immediate treatment is important to avoid dengue's additional adverse effects, such as nerve damage and anemia.
The following are 6 key indicators to look out for:
- Yellowish face (tongue) – This is due to B12 deficiency in red blood cells.
- Dark Circles or Puffy Eyes—They are one of the signs that suggest impaired B12 functioning regarding blood flow and vitality.
- Cracks at the corners of the mouth—angular cheilitis is a characteristic facial sign.
- Glossitis (Smooth/Swollen Tongue)—This is not common but may accompany pallor.
- Blurred Vision or Eye Twitches—problems of the eyes such as blurred vision or twitching may be a result of damage to the nerves caused by a lack of B12.
- Mild YELLOWING can look like jaundice (yellowish sclera, or whites of the eyes).
If they're present, seek medical advice for a simple blood test. Most supplements have a short period of time after which they are reversed by early supplementation.
