Rising LPG prices make smart cooking essential. Here are seven Indian meals that need very little gas yet deliver full flavour.
Pressure-cooker dal-rice – Combine rice, dal, and vegetables in one pot. Ready in 15–20 minutes.
One-pot khichdi – Moong dal, rice, and spices cook together quickly under pressure.
Steamed idli – Batter ferments overnight; steaming uses minimal gas for soft idlis.
Microwave or no-cook raita with leftover roti – Pair plain curd raita with leftover rotis for a zero-extra-gas meal.
Quick poha – Flattened rice softens with hot water and a brief tadka of just 2–3 minutes.
Boiled egg bhurji – Soft-boil eggs in a pressure cooker, then scramble lightly.
Vegetable upma – Semolina cooks fast with minimal water and a short sauté.
These methods rely on residual heat, pressure cooking, or short cooking times. Batch-cook, use residual flame, and cover pots tightly to save even more LPG while keeping meals wholesome and satisfying.
