The old proverb itself says that eating nutritious food makes you healthier and chase away doctor from you but also it have not been proved scientifically. While some study supported that those eating apple daily will have less doctor visit around 39.0% than those who are not apple eater around 33.9%.
Apple itself showing lots of health benefits as, they are very good source of vitamins C, which is an immune booster and vitamin A, which strengthen eye vision and help in bone development. No cholesterol and fats, low in calories and sodium, are another benefits found which make sense to eat apple. But as said, excess of anything is bad and so is true for apple, as its overuse may cause gastric issues in the stomach etc.
Study done in Ohio State University found that eating an apple everyday lowered the levels of bad cholesterol in mid-aged adults, and another study in Dutch found that eating apples might help to prevent strokes.
History: The original phrase was first said by Caroline Taggart in Wales, 1866.
‘‘Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.”
- In the 19th century, the phrase was used as “an apple a day, no doctor to pay” and “an apple a day’s sends the doctor away,”
- In early 20th century, the phrase was commonly used as “An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away” which has shown its hold till date.
Are Apples really valuable to human health?

Antioxidants present in apple like Quercetin, protects against certain disease like Alzheimer's disease and allergies and Epicatechin, helps in weight loss. A medium apple contains:

- Carbs: 25 grams
- Copper: 5% of the DV
- Potassium: 4% of the DV
- Vitamin K: 3% of the DV
Research has already proven many health benefits of apple either with peel or without it. One of the recent studies from Cornell's Food Science and Toxicology Department in Ithaca, N.Y shown that the peel of an apple contains phytochemicals ( chemicals present in plants), which has significant amounts antioxidants and anticancer properties, which is beneficial for health like help in reducing inflammations and asthma.
Antioxidant properties of one fresh apple were equal to 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C.
Anti-inflammatory properties of apple help in preventing colon cancer, breast cancer in women and prostate cancer. Apples are highly recommended in weight control, as it has very low calories which make them a perfect snack for everyone.
