For a healthy mind and body we need to have a healthy immune system. For making our immunity healthy and strong we need to intake a proper amount of nutrition. However, to curb the minimum requirement of nutrition in human body one can always opt for a multivitamin containing 100% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of each nutrient.

The dietary supplements consists of vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and many other ingredients. Dietary supplements are available in several forms, including tablets, capsules, gummies, and powders, as well as drinks and energy bars. 

Effectiveness

In today's scenario sometimes it gets difficult to maintain a healthy diet in routine. Dietary supplements aids our body to get adequate amounts of nutrients. However, dietary supplements can never be an alternative to a proper healthy diet. These supplements consist of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc etc. 

- Calcium and vitamin D help keep bones strong and reduce bone loss. 

- Folic acid lowers the risk of certain birth defects.

- Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oils might help some people with heart disease. 

Safety and Risk

As per Medical News Today, "Too much vitamin D — more than 4,000 IU or 100 mcg — can be harmful and lead to nausea, vomiting, kidney stones, confusion, loss of appetite, and muscle weakness."

As said, excess of everything is bad, higher doses of dietary supplements could lead to ill effects. Some supplements can show side effects by increasing the risk of kidney failure, an abnormal heartbeat, and death. Vitamin D also interacts with medications, such as the weight loss pill orlistat (Alli, Xenical), steroids, and cholesterol-lowering statins.
