On Thursday, June 16, India reported 12,213 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 11 fresh fatalities and 7,624 in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the Union Health Ministry. With this, the total death toll due to Covid-19 infections has climbed to 5,24,803, while the total tally of recoveries has reached 4,26,74,712 in the last 24 hours, said the ministry.

As per the ministry, the total tally of Covid-19 infections has climbed to 4,32,57,730 and the current active caseload in the nation stands at 58,215. The daily positivity rate and the weekly positivity rate stand at 2.35 percent and 2.38 percent respectively, said the ministry.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), so far, a total of 85.63 crore samples have been tested for Covid-19 including 5,19,419 samples being tested in the last 24 hours. 

West Bengal 

On Wednesday, West Bengal logged 230 new coronavirus cases along with one fresh fatality, said the state health department. The positivity rate stands at 2.89 percent. An official said, "There is an uptick in positive cases as well as positivity rate. The requirement for hospital care, however, remains low so far. All measures are being taken to keep the situation under control." 

Maharashtra 

On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 4,024 fresh Covid-19 cases, as per the State Health Department. The positivity rate stands at 14 percent. Public Health Minister, Rajesh Tope said, "The jump in positivity in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Palghar and Raigarh is of concern. We have directed districts to increase testing."
