On Thursday, India has registered 9,765 new cases, along with 8,548 recoveries & 477 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the Health Ministry. Currently, India's active caseload stands at 99,763 while the recovery rate is standing at 98%.

The Union health minister Mansukh Mandviya will conduct a meeting at 10am regarding screening at airports amidst rising fear of Omicron variant.
Omicron in South Africa
South Africa's new cases of Covid-19 doubled in a day, the government has to review the limitations on public gatherings for unvaccinated people. On Wednesday evening, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases announced that the infections for the preceding 24 hours were 8,561, up from 4,373 a day earlier.
Booster shots
On Wednesday, Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said that he would speak to Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi on Thursday regarding giving booster shots to healthcare workers and frontline workers in the state.
UK Govt to order more vaccines
On Wednesday, the UK government said that it has ordered 114 million additional Covid-19 vaccine doses, from pharmaceutical giants Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, to boost its jabs drive over the next two years. The government has ordered 60 million extra doses of the Moderna vaccine and 54 million more Pfizer-BioNTech shots.
