On Friday, India's daily tally of Covid-19 has climbed for a third straight day as 16,764 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, pushing the caseload to 34,838,804, said the health ministry. Active caseload rises to 91,361 in last 24 hours along with 220 deaths due to Covid-19.
Omicron cases
1,270 Omicron cases have been registered in India, most in Maharashtra (450), which is 27% higher than yesterday, said the health ministry.
Assam
Assam government has announced to start the Covid-19 vaccination drive for students aged between 15 to 18 years from January 3, 2022.
Speaking to ANI, the Assam health minister said the vaccination drive for children will begin with educational institutions. "We are starting from January 3 to vaccinate children under the 15-18 age group. It will begin with educational institutions," Keshab Mahanta said.
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, Thane district has reported 714 fresh Covid-19 positive cases, which raised its infection count to 5,73,887, said an official on Friday.
Keeping in view the rising Covid-19 cases, the Maharashtra government has announced fresh restrictions on Thursday, "In case of marriages or any other social, political or religious event, the maximum number of attendees shall be restricted to 50 persons. The maximum number of attendees is restricted to 20 in funerals," the order read.
Delhi
On Thursday, Delhi has crossed the 1,000-mark with 1,313 persons testing positive for Covid-19, which is the highest single-day record in 7 months. The positivity rate has jumped to 1.73 percent. New cases of Omicron cases has been detected with no travel history.
